Fleur de Lis Ball — Height: 10cm · Width: 9cm · Burn time: approx. 100 hours

A perfectly round ball candle covered from top to base in flowing Fleur de Lis motifs and elegant scrollwork — every curl and flourish deeply moulded into the surface with extraordinary detail. It's a candle that looks at home in a French provincial kitchen, on a formal dining table, or anywhere that deserves something genuinely beautiful.

Hand-poured from 100% pure Australian beeswax by Suz in Port Stephens, it burns on the same light spectrum as natural sunlight — the brightest, most natural light of any candle. As the flame burns down from the centre, the light shines outward through every scrolling motif on the outer wall — illuminating the entire design from within as the hours pass. A soft natural honey aroma drifts through the room as it burns. No synthetic additives, no dyes, no chemical additives of any kind.

Pair it with the Fleur de Lis Pillar for a striking matched display — or let this ball stand alone as the centrepiece it naturally is.

The lantern effect

As the Fleur de Lis Ball burns down from the centre, the outer wall stays intact and the flame shines outward through every scrolling motif — each curl and flourish lit from within. Because the design wraps all the way around the ball, the effect is visible from every angle. The longer it burns, the more dramatic and beautiful it becomes.

Did you know?

The Fleur de Lis has been a symbol of French royalty for centuries — and Napoleon himself used it on his imperial throne to establish his authority and right to rule. But here's the remarkable twist: when Napoleon moved into the Royal Palace at Tuileries, he refused to spend money on new décor — but he couldn't allow the existing drapes, embroidered with the Fleur de Lis of the overthrown Bourbon monarchy, to remain. His solution? Turn them upside down. And the inverted Fleur de Lis looked exactly like a bee. From that moment, the bee became Napoleon's personal emblem — the symbol of his entire reign. So in a roundabout way, the very symbol on this candle is the reason the bee became one of the most enduring emblems in French history. And now here it is, hand-poured in pure Australian beeswax, in Port Stephens NSW. History is funny like that.

Pair it with the Fleur de Lis Pillar

The Fleur de Lis Ball and Fleur de Lis Pillar share the same elegant motif and make a beautifully matched pair. Display them together on a dining table, mantelpiece, or sideboard for a cohesive, sophisticated arrangement.

About the colour and aroma of your candle

Pure beeswax is a living product of the hive — and like all living things, it changes with the seasons. The colour of your candle may range from rich golden yellow through to deeper amber, depending on which flowers the bees were foraging when the wax was made. Pick it up and you might catch a breath of honey, or something a little more floral — it shifts with the season and the pollen source, and it is entirely, beautifully natural. No two batches are ever exactly the same. That is not a flaw. That is beeswax. 🐝

Candle burning tips

Burn for at least 2 hours on the first use to allow the melt pool to form properly. Trim the wick to 5mm–1cm before each burn, and straighten it up after each burn and as needed while the candle is burning — a centred, upright wick makes all the difference to a clean, even burn. Keep out of drafts, and never leave a burning candle unattended.

NEVER LEAVE BURNING CANDLES UNATTENDED
Always stay within sight of a burning candle. Extinguish all candles before leaving the room or going to sleep. Never place a burning candle near curtains, fabric or other flammable materials.

ALWAYS BURN ON A SUITABLE SURFACE
Place your candle on a heat-proof plate or purpose-made candle holder before lighting. This protects your surfaces from heat and catches any wax if needed.

WICK TRIMMING
Before each burn, trim your wick to 5–6mm. A well-trimmed wick keeps the flame steady, reduces a chance of smoke, and helps your candle burn evenly. If the wick develops a small mushroom-shaped tip, extinguish and trim it away before relighting.

KEEP OUT OF DRAFTS
Suz E Bee Candles burn at their best in a still environment. Keep your candle away from open windows, fans, and air conditioning vents. A flickering flame isn't just distracting — it causes uneven burning, can cause dripping and shortens your candle's life.

BURN TIME
Allow your Pillar candle to burn for at least two hours for its first burn — this prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn every time. As a general guide, allow at least one hour of burn time for every 2.5cm of your candle's diameter.

Allow your candle to cool and resolidify completely between burn sessions.

TEA LIGHT CANDLES
Due to their design, Tea Light candles must always be burned in a Tea Light cup. Suz E Bee Candles Tea Lights are designed to burn in one complete session.

VOTIVE CANDLES
Due to their fluted design, votive candles must always be burned in a specific votive holder. Votives are designed to liquefy fully as they burn, and a proper holder keeps all that beautiful melted wax contained. Allow your votive to burn for a minimum of 2 hours per session so the wax melts evenly to the edges — extinguishing too soon can cause tunnelling and leave wax clinging to the sides.

EXTINGUISHING YOUR CANDLE
Dipping your wick is a far better way to put out a Suz E Bee candle. Blowing out a candle risks spattering hot wax, leaves a smoking wick, and sends that lingering burnt smell drifting through the room — right over the top of the lovely aroma your candle has been building.

Instead, use a wick dipper to gently push the wick down into the pool of molten wax to extinguish the flame, then straighten it back up. A purpose-made wick dipper is ideal, but the end of a pencil or wooden skewer works just as well. No wax splatter, just a tiny wisp of smoke — and your wick is perfectly primed and ready for next time.

WICK STRAIGHTENING
Check that your wick is centred and upright before lighting. A leaning wick can cause uneven burning and wasted wax. Monitor whilst burning and straighten where needed. Straightening it while the wax is still warm and soft after extinguishing each time is good practice — it only takes a second.

CANDLE END OF LIFE
Your candle should stop burning when approximately 1cm of wax remains at the base. Every Suz E Bee candle is designed this way intentionally — at this point the wick will extinguish itself naturally as it reaches the remaining wax.

BEESWAX BLOOM
You may notice a powdery white or dusty film appear on the surface of your candle over time. This is called bloom, and it's completely natural — it's actually a sign of pure beeswax. Gently buff it away with a soft cloth if you prefer, or simply leave it. It won't affect how your candle burns.
